Associate Professor

Overview

Dr. Shannon Elizabeth Fogh is a physician and researcher board certified in both radiation oncology and integrative medicine. As an integrative oncologist, she helps patients living with and beyond cancer and is passionate about using integrative approaches to maximize her patients’ quality of life and treatment outcomes. She has special expertise with both integrative and radiation oncology in treating cancer patients with both primary and metastatic brain tumors. Dr. Fogh’s research focuses on bridging the gap between radiation oncology and integrative medicine to improve outcomes and reduce treatment toxicity. She also seeks to better understand the interplay of stress, hormones, cardiometabolic health and the microbiome on cancer outcomes and treatment-related symptoms such as fatigue and neurocognition (often referred to as “chemo brain”). Dr. Fogh developed and led the first national cooperative group to study integrative interventions to prevent the treatment side effect of esophagitis. She has authored over 60 scientific publications and presented her research at more than 100 national and international conferences.

Patient Care Philosophy

As a Radiation Oncologist, my interest in Integrative Medicine began when I realized that patients frequently asked me about integrative approaches to complement their oncology treatment. I pursued double board certification in Integrative Medicine to ensure patient safety, provide support, and educate them about evidence-based approaches for symptom management and survival enhancement. Additionally, I aim to empower my patients by giving them a sense of control during this otherwise chaotic time in their lives.
